Custom metal railings — Brownsville, TX. Steel staircase and railing fabrication for a multifamily property by Torres Metals.

Service Overview

Railings built right, the first time.

A railing is the most physically demanding piece of metal in a building. People grip it, lean on it, slam through it with grocery bags, lift suitcases over it. It carries code requirements, load specs, and the kind of daily wear that exposes shortcuts fast. We’ve been fabricating and installing railings across the Rio Grande Valley for 38 years — long enough to know what fails, why it fails, and how to build so it doesn’t.

Every railing we deliver is fabricated in our own Brownsville shop and installed by our own crew — never subcontracted. That gives us control over the welds, the finish, the field-fit, and the punch list. It also means the same family that quoted the job is the one standing on the site when it goes in. If something needs adjustment, we adjust it. If a tenant complains about a wobble two months after install, we come back. That accountability is the difference between a railing shop and a fabrication partner.

Who We Build For

Three sectors. One standard.

01

Multifamily & Apartments

Stair rails, balcony rails, and corridor handrails for apartment complexes, 4-plexes, and multifamily new construction. We work with developers and general contractors on full railing packages — quoted, fabricated, and installed to your build schedule. Recent work: Augusto 802 Apartments and multiple Estrada Construction 4-plex builds across Brownsville.

02

Residential & Custom Homes

Interior staircase railings, balcony rails, and ornamental handrails for homeowners and architect-led custom builds. From clean modern picket designs to full ornamental panel work, we draw, fabricate, and install to match the design intent of the home. Recent work: 1216 Costa Del Sol and Fernando Residence in Brownsville.

03

Commercial & Architect-Led

Code-compliant commercial railings for property owners, GCs, and architect-led projects across the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. Recent work: pool railings for Allstar RV Resort in Houston, and architectural fence/rail/stair packages with the LACD Group in Edinburg.

Why Torres Metals

What you get when you hire us.

38 years in the trade

Two generations of metalwork. Family-owned, owner-operated. The same name on the truck has been on every Torres Metals invoice since 1988.

Built & installed in-house

Fabrication and installation under one roof. No subcontracted welders. No middlemen. Our crew, our shop, our accountability — start to finish.

Code-compliant by default

42-inch heights, 4-inch sphere rule, load testing. We build to IBC and IRC standards out of the gate so inspectors don’t kick anything back.

Field-fit accuracy

Real sites have out-of-square corners and uneven slabs. We measure, scribe, and final-fit on site rather than forcing shop dimensions into a stubborn opening.

Gulf-coast finishes

Salt air eats untreated steel. Every railing leaves the shop primed and powder-coated or painted with finishes built for the RGV climate.

We come back

Punch lists, warranty calls, adjustments — we show up. Local shop, real phone number, and the same crew on every callback.

Have a project in mind? Let’s talk specs and timeline.

Our Process

From first call to final install.

Step 01

Site visit & specs

We visit the site, measure, review drawings if you have them, and walk through design preferences and code requirements.

Step 02

Quote & drawings

Detailed itemized quote with material specs, finish options, and lead time. Drawings for approval before fabrication starts.

Step 03

Shop fabrication

Cut, welded, and finished in our Brownsville shop. Powder coat or paint applied before the railing ever leaves.

Step 04

Field install

Our crew installs to your build schedule. Final scribe, weld, and touch-up on site. We don’t leave until it’s right.

Railing Types

What we fabricate.

  • Interior staircase railings — picket, panel, ornamental, or modern horizontal designs for residential and multifamily stairs.
  • Exterior balcony & deck rails — apartment balconies, residential balconies, multifamily corridor rails, weatherproofed for the Gulf coast climate.
  • Pool & commercial railings — code-compliant pool perimeter railings, commercial property railings, and accessibility-grade handrails.
  • Architectural & ornamental rails — design-driven custom railings for architect-led builds, including panel work, scrollwork, and monogram features.
  • Wall-mount handrails — code-compliant grab rails for stairs, hallways, and accessibility upgrades on commercial buildings.
  • Fire-escape & egress railings — exterior steel railings on fire escapes, exterior stairs, and egress paths for multifamily and commercial buildings.
  • Repair & replacement — rust repair, weld touch-up, section replacement, and full railing replacement on aging buildings.

Service Area

Where we install metal railings.

Our shop is in Brownsville, and we install custom metal railings throughout the Rio Grande Valley — including Rancho Viejo, Los Fresnos, San Benito, Harlingen, McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Weslaco, and South Padre Island. For larger commercial railing packages, we also travel beyond the Valley — recent work has included pool railings for Allstar RV Resort in Houston and architectural railings in Memphis.

FAQ

Common questions about metal railings.

How much do custom metal railings cost in Brownsville?

Pricing depends on linear footage, design complexity, finish, and install conditions. A simple residential stair railing runs differently than a 200-foot multifamily corridor rail with custom pickets. We don’t post fixed pricing because we don’t quote on guesswork — every quote is itemized after a site visit. Call us at (956) 831-9067 or request a quote and we’ll send detailed pricing within one business day.

Are your railings code-compliant?

Yes. We build to International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC) standards out of the gate — 42-inch heights for guardrails, 4-inch sphere rule for pickets, proper load-bearing connections, and continuous handrails on stairs. If your project has additional requirements (ADA accessibility, specific architect specs, multifamily code overlays), we build to those.

How long does fabrication and installation take?

A standard residential stair railing typically goes from quote to install in 2-4 weeks. Multifamily railing packages with multiple units run 4-8 weeks depending on building schedule. Architect-led custom work with shop drawings and approvals can take longer. We’ll give you a real timeline at quote — and we hit our dates because the work doesn’t leave our shop.

Do you work with architects and general contractors?

Constantly. We’ve done architect-led railing, fence, and stair packages with the LACD Group in Edinburg, multi-building railing packages with Estrada Construction in Brownsville, and full-scope multifamily metalwork with Augusto’s Contracting on the 802 Apartments project. Send drawings, send specs — we read prints, we hit milestones, and we coordinate with your build schedule.

What materials and finishes do you offer?

Mild steel is our standard for most railings. We also fabricate in stainless and aluminum on request. Finishes include shop primer plus oil-based paint, automotive-grade enamel, or powder coat for the longest service life in salt-air environments. Color choices are open — we’ll match a swatch if you have one.

Do you replace or repair existing railings?

Yes. Property managers, apartment owners, and homeowners regularly call us for railing repair and replacement on aging buildings — rusted sections, broken welds, code violations flagged on inspection, or full perimeter replacement. We can patch, splice, weld-in section replacements, or remove and rebuild from scratch.

What’s your warranty?

We stand behind our welds and our installation work. Specific warranty terms are written into every quote, but the short version: if something fails because of our fabrication or installation, we come back and fix it. We’ve been in business 38 years on the strength of that policy.

Do you only work in the Rio Grande Valley?

Most of our work is in the RGV — that’s where our shop is and where our crew lives. But for larger commercial railing packages with the right scope and budget, we travel. Recent out-of-Valley work includes pool railings for Allstar RV Resort in Houston and a residential railing project in Memphis. If you have a project outside the RGV and want to talk, call.
